Behavioral Health Sciences Institute-Professional Development (BHSI-formerly known as TACE) provides services for individuals with special needs by developing and delivering training and consultation to public school administrators, teaching staff and mental health agency personnel. Training covers many pertinent topics and is customized to meet the needs of specific audiences. In its first four years, BHSI has provided training in over 100 schools, addressing the needs of over 2000 participants. BHSI provides all participants with contact hours or CEU certificates.

Separately, or in conjunction with training, BHSI provides consultation and technical assistance services in a variety of areas important to educational and mental health service providers. These services are conducted in a collaborative manner, working with clients to establish what questions or problems are to be addressed and to develop a plan of action. BHSI then provides individuals with the best educational and experiential backgrounds to meet those identified needs.

BHSI offers training in many topics. These include:

  • Positive Behavioral Supports
  • Positive Behavioral Supports for Early Care (Coming Soon!)
  • Positive Behavioral Supports Train-the-Trainer
  • Behavior Management for Bus Drivers
  • Creating a Respectful Community – Bullying & Teasing Prevention
  • Building Resiliency
  • Educational Technicians’ Training
  • Supervision

Positive Behavioral Supports

IDEA requires that we assess students’ challenging behaviors and develop positive behavioral interventions to address them. Positive Behavioral Supports is an approach to working with these students. It is individualized and focuses on three main components: PREVENTION – changing the circumstances that usually lead to challenging behaviors, INTERVENTION – replacing the challenging behaviors with new skills, and RESOLUTION – planning and implementing effective and safe responses to challenging behaviors. The subject matter is divided into 8 modules: Understanding Behavior, Understanding the Needs of Children and Youth, Building Self-Awareness, Communication Skills, Prevention Strategies, Behavioral Intervention, Conflict Resolution, and Managing Aggressive Behaviors.

Where a school, district or region has 10 or more participants identified, this training can be done at a location and time of your choosing. Please call for more information.
